been built during the
last two centuries.
But some unique
chapels that are
very old have been
designated
as historical monuments
by the Ministry of
Culture.
The most known are the
following.
Panagia Paraportiani
is the most known of
Mykonos churches.
It's name comes from the
Greek word "porta"
(door)
and it was built back in
the 15th century.
Actually it is a
combination of 4
churches.
Panagia church
(Kimissis tis Theotokou
in Greek).
It was founded during
Turkish Period on
17th century.
Dedicated to the
Assumption of the Virgin
Mary.
This beautiful
Convent of Panagia,
built in 1738
was made by a famous
painter, Ioannis
Skordilis.
Panagia Tourliani
Monastery.
It was founded back in
1542 by monks
of the monastery
of Katapoliani of
Paros and it is
dedicated in the
Presentation of the
Virgin Mary (Eisodia
tis Panagias).
Agios Panteleimon.
This convent was
founded in 17th
century and is
dedicated to the
Assumption of the Virgin
Mary (Kimissis tis
Theotokou in Greek).
Panagia Panachra.
It is in the island's
town.
The Catholic Church.
It is near Orthodox
Cathedral of Mykonos.
Agia Kyriaki.
This beautiful church is
in Mykonos Town
(Hora).
Panaghia of
Palaiokastro. It
was founded somewhere
near 17th century
during the Turkish
Period.
Metropolis or
Megali Panagia.
Aghios Georgios.
And many many
more.
